People, mostly us women tend to relate a perfect figure to stardom and success. We come to believe that looking good makes us feel good and that in turn affects our confidence and approach towards life.
But that should in no way affect your ability and inner strength to reach out for success. Just as these women proved that even with the extra weight around themselves, they have the courage and talent to make it big in their lives.
America Ferrera
America’s “Ugly Betty” gained her fame for being the fashion addicted not-so fashionable assistant to Daniel Meade. She is cool and doesn’t bother about her weight much. Her acting and talent are more the subject of talk than what she is wearing.
She was photographed in a bikini once, but she didn’t shy away. Photographs show her gleaming smile as she waves to the cameras- that’s what makes a woman- happiness from inside.
Oprah Winfrey
Being on Oprah Winfrey’s talk show is like a status symbol for celebrities around the world. Talk show host, author, philanthropist and someone with more brains than the perfect figure, no one cares about her weight or how she looks anymore. There was a time when Oprah’s weight was the talk of the town.
Now with her magazine, O, Oprah has shown the world that it is not always about what it looks like from outside. Her success is a lesson to all us women who think that to be in front of the camera, we need to fit into a particular size 0f clothes with heaps of fake make up.
Gabourey “Gabby” Sidibe
Gabourey “Gabby” Sidibe is probably the “fattest” actor Hollywood has seen playing the lead character in an Oscar nominated debut film- Precious. At a time when most women feel they have to fit into the thin bracket or hide in the closet, Gabourey gave acting a try.
She managed to impress Oprah, who produced the film and bagged the role of Precious- a troubled sexually assaulted and abused teenager.
It also won her a nomination for best female actor in a lead role at the 82nd Academy Awards. She is a success story and there is no reason why others can’t be.
Queen Latifah
Queen Latifah must be the queen of plus sized success. Large and proud of it, she is a success as a singer, a rapper and an actress. She is also one of those great actors who has a wide range in the roles she is offered and is not stuck doing comic roles alone.
In her career that has been spanning for more than two decades, she has won a Golden Globe award, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, two Image Awards, a Grammy Award, six Grammy nominations, an Emmy Award nomination and an Academy Award nomination.
Quite impressive, eh?
And she has no qualms about being beautifully large.
This is an example of only a few who made it big in the glamour world with their extra curves. Look around and you will see more women in their plus sized bodies living plus sized lives.
If you do want to change how the world looks at you, you need to change how you look at yourself.
